Creating precision control circuits for fluid applications in potentially explosive atmospheres just got easier.Flow control specialist Bürkert has released a new compact solenoid valve with ATEX/IECEx and DVGW EN 161 certification for gas use.The new version of its reliable and powerful direct-acting plunger valve offers a range of connections and variants to suit many applications.
The 2/2-way Type 7011 has orifices up to 2.4 mm in diameter and the 3/2-way Type 7012 has orifices up to 1.6 mm in diameter, both available in normally open and normally closed configurations. The new valve achieves a compact design thanks to the AC08 coil technology that optimizes the ratio between the iron loop and the solenoid winding. Therefore, the standard version valve with a 24.5 mm encapsulated solenoid coil is one of the smallest explosion-proof variants available, enabling the design of a more compact control cabinet. In addition, the Model 7011 solenoid valve design is one of the smallest gas valves on the market.
Fast operation The size advantage is even greater when multiple valves are used in combination, thanks to Bürkert-specific flange variants, a space-saving valve arrangement on multiple manifolds. The valve switching time performance of the Model 7011 ranges from 8 to 15 milliseconds to open and 10 to 17 milliseconds to close. The Type 7012 valve has an open and close time range of 8 to 12 milliseconds.
Drive performance combined with a highly durable design enables long-life, reliable operation. The valve body is made of brass and stainless steel with FKM/EPDM seals and O-rings.The IP65 degree of protection is achieved through cable plugs and ATEX/IECEx cable connections, making the valve impermeable to dust particles and water jets.
The plug and core tube are also welded together for added pressure resistance and tightness. As a result of the design update, the DVGW gas variant is available at a maximum working pressure of 42 bar.At the same time, the solenoid valve also offers reliability at higher temperatures, up to 75°C in the standard version, or up to 55°C in explosion-proof versions with ceilings over 60°C on request.
Wide range of applications Thanks to ATEX/IECEx compliance, the valve operates safely in challenging environments such as pneumatic conveyors. The new valve can also be used in ventilation technology from coal mines to factories and sugar mills.Type 7011/12 solenoids can also be used in applications with gas explosion potential, such as mineral oil extraction, fueling and storage, and gas plants. The protection level also means they are suitable for many applications, from industrial painting lines to whisky distilleries.
In gas applications, these valves can be used to regulate industrial burners, such as pilot gas valves, as well as mobile and stationary automatic heaters for industrial and commercial use.Installation is simple and quick, the valve can be mounted to a flange or manifold, and there is an option of push-in fittings for flexible hose connections.
The solenoid valve is also intended for use in hydrogen fuel cell applications that convert electrochemical energy into electricity, from green energy to mobile applications.Bürkert offers complete fuel cell solutions including flow control and metering, the type 7011 device can be integrated as a highly reliable safety shut-off valve for combustible gases.
