The Ultima RS is the new top model from the British automaker known as the Ultima GTR. It debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but interested buyers can now pre-order on the company’s website.
The design of the Ultima RS is inspired by the Group C enduro era of the 1980s and 1990s, including notable machines such as the Porsche 956 and Jaguar XJR-12. The look of the new model highlights the increased downforce and improved airflow compared to the company’s earlier models. To achieve this, components such as a chassis-mounted front splitter, vortex generators, a large rear diffuser and a gooseneck rear wing are used.
Customers have a variety of power options – they all use a GM V8 engine. The base model is a 6.2-liter V8 LT1 with 480 hp. (358 kW). There’s also a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 LT4 with 650 hp. (485 kW). The RS, powered by the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine from the LT5, has 800 hp as standard. (597 kW), but Ultima offers up to 1200 hp. (895 kW) in factory settings.
The only transmission available is a six-speed manual, and the Ultima RS FAQ makes it clear that an automatic will never be on the options list. “The Ultima RS is a true driving car and as such is only available with a six-speed manual transmission and clutch pedal,” the company wrote.
The RS is a track-focused machine, but the Ultima offers options to make it more comfortable on the road, including air conditioning, navigation, a reversing camera, parking sensors, and lumbar-support seats upholstered in leather or Alcantara. LED headlights with daytime running lights are also available.
The RS is available in left or right hand drive and the Ultima ships worldwide. They are not legal anywhere, but can be driven on the streets of some countries.
